Tip 6: Don’t be afraid to say no

By saying no from time to time, you decide what you consider important. Are you worried others won’t like you anymore? You can say no in a nice way, for example, “I would love to help you, but right now I need some time for myself”. People will surely understand.

Pour your energy into things you really want to do and consider important. Things that give you energy.

How to say no when someone asks you something:

  • Don’t answer straight away. It’s okay to be silent for a bit. Tell them you need to think about it.
  • Tell them you can’t manage right now. That way, you don’t give a final reply and you give yourself some time to think about it.
  • Think of another option, for example, “I can’t drive to school this time, but I can ask Lieke’s grandma whether she’d be willing to”.
