Tip 3: Listen to each other

Show the other person you’re listening to them by nodding or responding with brief sounds like “hmm” and “oh yes”. Ask questions and show empathy. Think before you react and choose the right moment. Many people tend to respond without thinking. If you respond in an excessively angry or irritated manner, you might end up saying nasty things unintentionally. In that case, it’s better to pick up where you left off another time. Try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes.

Tip:

Every now and then, use your own words to repeat what the other person said to show you were listening to them. It will also help the other person see whether or not you’ve understood them correctly.
